Definition: An empty glass beer or plastic soda bottle that can be returned to a shop, tavern, or shebeen for a cash deposit or exchange for a full one.

-Used in Kaaps and informal English speech.

Notes:

  • Comes from the English word empty, but in street language, it has narrowed to this very specific meaning.
  • Part of the township and working-class economy, where empties are both a form of recycling and informal currency.
