Cape Town singer Robin Pieters has surprised fans with news that his marriage to Regan Joorst has come to an end, less than a year after their wedding.
The former The Voice SA contestant shared the news on social media on Monday evening, telling followers that he and Joorst had decided to part as a married couple.
Pieters and Joorst had been together for seven years before exchanging vows. They married on 24 October last year during a small private ceremony.
In his statement, Pieters wrote:
“Regan and I have decided to go our separate ways, just a month shy of our one-year anniversary”
He also spoke warmly about the relationship and the difficult decision behind their separation.
“We both love each other dearly, and honestly, we sobbed when we made the decision to be just friends. Sometimes loving someone means recognising that the best thing for both of you is to take a different path.”
Pieters went on to say that the pair remain on good terms as they adjust to life after marriage.
“We are in an extremely good place with each other. There is no bad blood, no negativity just two people who care deeply for one another and have chosen to navigate this new chapter as friends.”
He asked fans to respect their privacy as they navigate this new chapter.
The announcement comes during a busy year for the Cape Town musician. Pieters has been touring across four major South African cities with his Empower Her Resilience tour, alongside artists including Salome, Sash Lee Davids and Karin Kortje.
Since sharing the news, Pieters has also taken some time away, travelling to the United States to visit a friend.
