How to Check Your SASSA Status Via the Moyo App in 11 Steps

The Moya App is a South African “super app” that gives you data-free access to a variety of useful services — from chatting and reading the latest news to playing games or applying for SASSA grants. It works on all major South African networks — MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, and Cell C — without using your airtime or data.

How to access SASSA services on Moya:

1. Download the Moya App from Google Play or the App Store.

2. Open the app. Keep mobile data turned on — it’s needed for connection, but Moya won’t use your data or airtime.

3. Agree to the terms and conditions, including parental consent if prompted. Tap Agree and Continue.

4. Enter your date of birth when the popup appears, then tap Continue.

5. Add your South African cellphone number for verification. This confirms your number and shares it with Moya contacts. Tap Continue.

6. Confirm your number when asked. Tap Yes if it’s correct.

7. Grant permissions for Moya to access your contacts and media. Tap Accept.

8. Allow consent for the app to use your contact list and image information. Tap Accept again.

9. Go to Discover once inside the app, then tap the Money icon.

10. Select SRD350 Datafree from the list of money services.

11. Enter your ID number when prompted, then tap Continue.

12. Access the official SASSA website portal directly from there.

How to Check Your SASSA Status Via WhatsApp and USSD

If you want to know how to check your SASSA status via WhatsApp or USSD, don’t bother. As of 2025, there’s no official USSD code for this service. Codes like 12069277# and 1203210# listed by other publications don’t work, and the WhatsApp number 082 046 8553, also given by certain publications, remains unresponsive. Save yourself the frustration—these methods no longer provide SASSA status updates.
