Summary

Leonardo Blood grows up in a poor but loving family until tragedy strikes and his father and younger brother are killed in an accident. Unable to cope with the loss and the changes that follow, Leonardo eventually runs away from home and finds himself living on the streets. There, he meets Rodger, an elderly Englishman who becomes a father figure and an important source of support in Leonardo’s life. When Rodger falls ill and Leonardo visits him in hospital, he makes a shocking discovery that changes everything he thought he knew. Set against the harsh realities of street life, the story explores homelessness, gender-based violence, sexual abuse and gang violence, while examining the relationships and experiences that shape Leonardo’s journey.
