Plot Summary

Bernie Baatjies has big dreams that feel out of reach. Stuck in the Cape Flats, he imagines a life far from the poverty and gang violence surrounding him—a life of luxury, power, and a shiny red car like the one his TV idol J.R. Ewing drives. But reality hits hard when a friend is killed in front of him during a gang fight. That night changes everything. Bernie knows he has to escape.

With nothing but determination and street smarts, Bernie lands a job at a nightclub in the city. The owner, Bernard, sees potential in him, and Bernie doesn’t waste the opportunity. Starting with the most menial tasks, he fights his way up the ranks, eventually becoming the club’s manager. But success in this world doesn’t come easy. To survive, Bernie has to dig deep and transform himself, confronting the harsh truths about ambition and survival along the way.
