Heideveld’s Front-Yard Santa Spreads Christmas Joy
The Christmas spirit is alive and well in our community thanks to people like Reginald.

Reginald “Reggie” Peters Abrahams spends his December evenings sitting outside his home in Heideveld. He puts on a rented Father Christmas suit and greets the children who live nearby. His house is covered in bright Christmas lights that brighten up the street every night until the arrival of Christmas Eve.
This tradition started because Reginald noticed the reality of life for many youngsters while he was driving home from work. He saw children standing at traffic lights asking for food. These kids came from every background and religion. It stayed in his mind that hunger affects everyone equally.
According to the Daily Voice, Reginald remembers his own childhood and how his mother managed things. Even when money was scarce, she made sure their stomachs were full. She shared what little they had with others in the area.
Reginald decided he wanted to do the same for the current generation. He prepares party packs filled with treats for the little ones. He also gives out cups of milk and biscuits to anyone who stops by. Most of the money for these items comes from his own earnings. While some people send donations, Reginald covers the majority of the costs himself.
He stays outside for hours talking to the families and handing out snacks. The lights on his walls create a festive atmosphere for the whole block. It has become a highlight for many people who live in the area. They know they can find a friendly face and a snack at his gate. Reginald believes that helping others is a necessary part of the season. He wants to make sure that the children in Heideveld have a positive memory of this time of year.
That’s the true Christmas Spirit: empathy in action and sharing the little we have to make someone else’s world brighter.
