Come Lag ‘n Bietjie With Yaseen Barnes at Just Jokes
Cape Town comedian Yaaseen Barnes debuts a new solo hour built on silliness and laughter.
Cape Town gets three chances to laugh with comedian Yaaseen Barnes this August.
Barnes takes his new stand-up hour, Just Jokes, to the Homecoming Centre. Three performances run across two nights in District Six.
The Athlone-born comedian has plenty to say. He also has a pretty funny theory about South Africans.
According to Barnes, we might be the funniest people on Earth.
That is a big claim. Luckily, he plans to spend an entire hour making his case.
His new show takes a playful look at everyday life. Barnes finds humour in situations many people know all too well.
The material moves between sharp observations and personal moments. His delivery aims for the sort of chat you might have with a funny friend.
There is also a bigger idea behind all the laughs. Life can get heavy, especially when the news keeps serving fresh chaos.
Barnes reckons laughter deserves a proper place in all of that. A room full of people laughing together can be quite something.
His comedy career already has some impressive highlights. Barnes won the South African Comic’s Choice Award for Best Newcomer.
He also received the Intermediate Comic of the Year Award. Mail & Guardian previously named him among South Africa’s top youth.
Television viewers may recognise him from Social Gaming and Coconuts on DStv. Comedy fans have also seen him alongside Dalin Oliver and KG Mokgadi.
Those appearances helped Barnes build an audience through live comedy and online clips. Now he gets a full hour to himself.
So, if your week has been a bit too serious, Barnes has a suggestion.
Come laugh at the silly stuff for a few hours.
Cape Town has plenty of reasons to laugh. Barnes plans to add a few.
