Award-winning Cape Town writer and director Nic Matthee has released his newest short film, The Meeting, under his nonprofit initiative Red Moon Performing Arts Projects.

The project continues Matthee’s mission to use performing art as a space for storytelling rooted in the realities of our local communities.

The film was shot on location in Delft, including Roosendal High School, with support from the Touched by Style Community Arts Projects and Funky Force Youth Development Movie Centre.

You can stream The Meeting right now on Tubi TV and YouTube.

In The Meeting, we explore the psychological breakdown of our protagonist, Sebbie de Kock (Tyriq Williams). Plagued by blackouts and hallucinations, Sebbie’s sense of truth begins to fracture after he uncovers his wife’s affair with his friend, Hannes (played by Nic himself). Convinced that those closest to him—including his sister, Carol—are plotting against him, Sebbie constructs an imaginary courtroom to hold them accountable. What unfolds is an unsettling portrayal of paranoia, guilt, and human fragility.

The Meeting also showcases the talent of Marley and Riley Valentine from Mitchell’s Plain, Nicole Barkhuizen from Ravensmead, Justin Malgas from Brackenfell, and Glemorene Jacobs from Stellenbosch

The 19-minute film will be screened at the 67th Zinebi Film Festival in Spain from Friday, 21 November to Friday, 28 November.

Nic’s earlier work through the Touched By Style Community Arts Projects and Film earned international acclaim, including two major awards at Germany’s 2024 Interfilm International Short Film Festival. The initiative, founded to empower creative talent in the Cape Flats, continues to serve as a springboard for emerging voices in local filmmaking.
