But now? “Ben 10” is slang for something else entirely. It refers to a young guy—usually in his early 20s—who’s in a relationship with an older woman. She’s wealthy, and he’s living the life, getting spoiled with gifts and cash. It’s a sweet deal for him, really. She gets the attention, and he gets to enjoy the perks.
If you’ve heard Early B’s track, you’ll know he calls it out perfectly: “Sy soek ‘n Ben Ten//’N jong outjie, haar oudste dogter se size//Sy sê a young man with energy is what she needs in her life.” It’s straight to the point.
Times change fast, and language changes with it. One minute you’re watching a cartoon with a catchy theme song, and the next you’re reading about how real-life “Ben 10s” are shaking up relationships.
