The Crystal-Donna Roberts Bursary is a new initiative officially announced on 8th April 2026, during the programme launch of the Vrystaat Kunstefees (Free State Arts Festival).
This bursary was established in memory of the award-winning South African actress, writer, and presenter Crystal-Donna Roberts, who passed away on 6 March, 2025, at the age of 40. While she grew up in Bonteheuwel and Kensington in Cape Town, Crystal-Donna completed her schooling in Bloemfontein and earned her degree in drama from the University of the Free State.

Purpose: The bursary is designed to support a postgraduate Arts student in any field and to honour the legacy of Crystal-Donna—widely celebrated for her roles in Krotoa, 7de Laan, and Arendsvlei.
Announcement: Marijda Kamper, the festival’s programme manager, introduced the bursary during the launch event held at the Koekela Coffee Shop in Bloemfontein.
