GrandWest Mall is set to become a retail and lifestyle destination for residents and tourists alike.

Cape Town will soon welcome GrandWest Mall, a fresh new retail spot developed by Flanagan & Gerard with Sun International. It will form part of the popular GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, bringing together shopping and lifestyle in a familiar location that’s already a favourite for fun, food, and entertainment.

A New Retail Destination for the Surrounding Communities

GrandWest Mall is being thoughtfully planned to offer a well-rounded experience for residents in surrounding areas like Athlone and Bonteheuwel as well as visitors to Cape Town. This development brings a much-needed retail space to a prime area with very little competition.

The mall will cover 25,000 square metres of retail space, offering everything from clothing and groceries to wellness and daily services. It will include two major supermarkets, a speciality food store, trusted pharmacies and places to grab a bite.

There’s also a strong focus on lifestyle. With 2,000 square metres of health and fitness space and an additional 1,000 square metres for office use, the development offers a mix of work and wellbeing.

Expanding the GrandWest Experience

GrandWest draws nearly 380,000 monthly visitors, thanks to its wide mix of attractions. From the casino and skating rink to two hotels, a cinema, restaurants, and the 5,410-seat Grand Arena for live events, it has plenty going on.

The new mall will grow the precinct even further with padel courts, a gym, rooftop venues, and added places to eat. It’s designed to suit families, everyday visitors, and travellers alike. Its place within the existing setup means GrandWest Mall will form part of a full-day experience.

Easy Access and a Strong Retail Gap

Located between two of Cape Town’s biggest highways, GrandWest Mall is easy to reach via the M7. The area sees a lot of movement and is well linked to nearby suburbs like Goodwood, Parow, Epping, Langa, and Kensington. Few major retail centres operate close by, leaving a strong need for shopping in the area. The primary catchment area includes close to a million people and more than 250,000 households, many of whom have limited shops near home.

Beyond this, the mall is set to attract visitors from outside its surrounding areas owing to two big attractions nearby — the region’s only casino and one of a few ice rinks. With both local and tourist traffic likely to flow through, the mall has a strong foundation for success and a chance to become a central hub for retail in the area.

What to Expect When GrandWest Mall Opens

Building of the GrandWest Mall is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2025, with the launch expected a year later in 2026. The space will have three key entrances and open-air parking where visitors can enjoy their first hour for free. A delivery road will make it easier for stores to run efficiently. The mix of tenants has been shaped to reflect what the local area and wider region would find useful. Alongside major retail anchors, there’ll be a selection of shops offering fashion, electronics, homeware, gifts, and financial services. Dining options will range from relaxed takeaways to family-friendly restaurants.

Around 2,500 jobs are expected during construction, with about 2,000 permanent roles to follow.
