TikTok Is Having a Jol With The Trump vs Ramaphosa Beef

 

South Africans like to think we skrik for niks. Not for a rand in freefall, not Stage 6 loadshedding, and definitely not an angry Donald Trump. The man threw a tantrum online, announcing that the US would cut financial aid because South Africa is apparently treating “certain classes of people VERY BADLY.”

Ramaphosa, sipping his rooibos, went onto X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight. No land has been confiscated, South Africa runs on constitutional democracy, and the only thing America actually pays for here is PEPFAR, a health initiative for HIV/AIDS treatment.

Then came the State of the Nation Address. Ramaphosa didn’t mention Trump directly, but we all knew who he was gooiing a skimp when he said, “We will not be bullied” and that the country stands together. In other words: “Trump, tsek!”

 

TikTok Has Entered the Chat

 

While politicians flexed their muscles, South Africans did what they do best—logged onto TikTok and turned a global political crisis into comedy.
